Jazz-Funk & Fusion Beats Without any Compromise
KAYD is the musical hub around Hamburg-based artists and producers Kamil (saxophone) and Aydin (keyboards) – a project fusing jazz, funk, and primal groove energy into something new. What started as a shared vision between two musicians has evolved into a dynamic collective uniting established jazz veterans and hungry newcomers from Hamburg‘s international scene.
The Vision
Contemporary yet timeless. Danceable yet sophisticated. KAYD creates music that merges the best of different worlds: the complexity and virtuosity of jazz, the raw energy of funk, the irresistible pocket of a locked-in rhythm section. Their compositions blend Middle Eastern, Caucasian, and Tatar influences with contemporary jazz – a sound celebrating their musical roots without being reduced to them.
Live Experience
On stage, KAYD becomes an unleashed force of nature. No elegiac jazz clichés, no polite head-nodding. Instead: primal energy, playful interaction, grooves that make the audience vibrate. The band thrives on the spontaneity of rotating lineups, with each member bringing their own musical identity. The result: no two shows are alike, but the vision remains crystal clear – getting people to dance, whether they‘re jazz purists or club crowds.
Background
KAYD‘s core members have earned their stripes in formations like NHO Big Band, Bastian Menz Trio, NuHussel Orchestra and Vadim Dmitrijev‘s Quintet. Their most defining collaboration emerged in the FlipFlap project, where the current core crew first came together. Performances at renowned festivals including Usadba Jazz (Moscow/Riga), Elbjazz, JazzHall Summer Festival, and JazzOpen Hamburg have continuously refined their sound.
The Statement
KAYD doesn‘t play jazz for jazz lovers. KAYD plays music for people who wants the groove. Young, wild, uncompromising – on stage and in production.
